Pakistan Bar Council listens to journalists’ call, withdraws new social media rules
A statement issued by the Pakistan Bar Council says parliament, the Senate and the provincial assemblies should reject the new rules.
The Bar Council says political parties should also raise their voices against censorship, opposing political forces against oppressive law.
The Pakistan Bar Council declares that the new social media laws conflict with Article 14 of the Constitution and 1948, while the new laws are also against international law and treaties.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on the new rules for the government’s social media said that these decisions are economic and not political.
